Itinerary
After a two hour journey from Quito to the Otavalo region we begin our hike.
Today we have the opportunity to summit one of Ecuador’s most accessible Andean volcanoes – Fuya Fuya. Starting at Lake Mojanda at around 3700m we begin our ascent through paramo grasses with fantastic views of the surrounding mountains and Mojanda lakes.
Taking it slowly, the hike takes around 2 hours to reach the summit at 4263m, and around 1 hour to come back down. The final climb to the summit includes a small section of rock scrambling. The views from the top are outstanding. (3 hours – 4 km)
Box lunch included.
In the afternoon we can visit the colourful handicraft market in Otavalo, where many different indigenous people, with their unique traditional dress and customs, from all across Ecuador, sell their artisan products and wares.
