Wao Kamp is an amazing ecological camp in the Ecuadorian Amazon where you can disconnect from technology and connect with nature. It is run by the Waorani community, and they will make your stay a unique and incomparable experience. You will learn about their ancestral knowledge, language, traditions, daily life, and especially their spiritual and cultural connection with the jungle.

Itinerary

Day 1 From El Coca to the Yasuni (L,D)
The adventure begins in El Coca as we head along the Auca Road toward the Shiripuno River. This route, taking about two hours, leads us into the Waorani territory and marks our entry into Yasuni. Along the way to our campsite, you may encounter members of the local community. Our base, Wao Kamp, lies at the border of Gaba's territory - Gaba being a respected elder and Waorani warrior. Before the day ends, we will visit him, then return to camp for dinner.

Day 2 Rainforest awakening and Wao family (B,L,D)
We begin at 06h00 a.m. with a river journey as the morning mist lifts, offering the ideal setting to observe the rainforest come alive with bird activity. This birdwatching excursion lasts a couple of hours, followed by a breakfast at 08h30 a.m. Afterward, Gaba will guide us on a hike through a historic hunting trail, sharing his knowledge of plants and survival techniques. The hike lasts arouns 4 - 5 hours and leads to a mineral-rich clay lick often visited by animals. After lunch and some downtime, we will set off again at 04:30 p.m. to explore the river by canoe, searching for wildlife like toucans, macaws, turtles, and monkeys.
After dark, we will try to spot caimans and other nocturnal animals such as deer, capybaras, or even jaguars. Dinner si served at 08:00 p.m.

Day 3 Blackwater lagoons and Hunting skills (B,L,D)
We will start with an early breakfast at 06h00 a.m. and begin our day exploring blackwater lagoons in search of anacondas - the mighty snakes known for their size and strength. Our exploration includes short walks and canoe rides through two to three lagoons, lasting from 09h00 a.m. to 01h00 p.m.
After lunch at 01h30 p.m. we will visit Gaba's home to learn about traditional hunting methods and observe how he uses his handcrafted weapons like blowguns and spears. Yo will also get to see their handmade jewerly and artwork. Back at camp, dinner will be served at 07h00 p.m., followed by a short night walk to look for tree frogs, insects, snakes, and spiders.

Day 4 Departure (B)
On our final morning, we will have breakfast at 06h45 a.m., with some free time before we depart at 07h30 a.m. for two-hour canoe ride upriver. Once we reach El Coca, a two-hour drive will bring you to your onward destination.

Children under 12 years old get 25% discount on hotel prices when sharing a room with adults.
